Me Before You

You only get one life. It’s actually your duty to live it as fully as possible.
— Jojo Moyes, Me Before You

Ashley and Oscar exchanged vows at Deerfield Estates in Waco, Texas on February 12, 2022. It was extremely cold that day - freezing as a matter of fact! There were even reports of nearby sightings of snow flurries! But this was not going to change Ashley’s mind about having an outdoor wedding.

Where It All Began…

Ashley and Oscar met online where they frequently talked and got to know each other. Eventually they went on their first date which consisted of watching a movie and then going out to dinner. They continued learning about each other as they fell deeper in love with one another. One day, Oscar and Ashley were visiting a park when “IT” happened - Oscar PROPOSED!!

Oscar’s proposal to Ashley (screenshot of the video)

From the moment these met, it was nothing short of amazing. They both say that the first meeting was truly “just love at first sight.”

A typical date night for Ashley and Oscar involve spending time together watching a movie and enjoying dinner afterwards. These two are definitely meant for each other and compliment each other perfectly! I was fortunate enough to spend time with Ashley on a few occasions before her wedding day. We first met at her brother’s wedding and then later I was able to get to know her more during her senior photo session. I love spending time with Ashley! She is gorgeous, extremely genuine and adventurous - and full of smiles! When she asked me to be the photographer for her wedding, I couldn’t wait to spend time with her again. But I also wanted to meet her fiancé. If Ashley fell in love with him, he must be a great guy that makes her an even better person.

In October the two of them had their engagement session so I was able to get to spend time with them and watch them interact with one another. It was obvious the two were smitten with one another, but it was deeper than that. They truly care for one another. Oscar is incredibly kind and caring and puts others first. He makes sure Ashley, as well as others, are taken care of. He is a hard worker and is passionate about his job within the military. He makes sure he is showing Ashley just how much he loves her through his calm, gentle demeanor. Ashley knows how important his job is and is able to work around that part of Oscar’s life. She admires him for all he does for her, as well as others. She loves how selfless he is. Oscar says Ashley is amazing and so funny. He loves how Ashley loves him and wants him to succeed in all that he does.

October 2021 - Ashley and Oscar during their engagement session

The Wedding…

Oscar and Ashley’s dream vacation is a cozy cabin in the woods with snow falling outside as they’re snuggled up under cozy blankets enjoying a cup of hot chocolate. Knowing this makes so much about their wedding day on February 12th make sense!

The temperature outside was literally freezing and Ashley wanted to be barefoot during the ceremony - which was outside. It was so cold as we waited for the ceremony to begin, however after Ashley and Oscar were in place at the altar it suddenly didn’t feel quite as cold outside. Witnessing the two of them promise to love each other forever took your mind off the weather. What was happening right in front of us was certainly heartwarming!

Ashley and Oscar are truly blessed to have such a strong family support system behind them. Oscar’s parents are divorced, but have remarried. His parents both remarried wonderful people who care deeply for Oscar and Ashley. They sit together, talk together, and just enjoy being around each other. You’d never know they went through a divorce. The amount of respect they all have for one another is breathtaking.

As the day progressed, everyone on both sides of the family just intermingled as if they were one big family celebrating Ashley and Oscar. It was truly amazing to witness. The two of them are definitely made for each other ❤

A family that supports one another thrives.

Where it all began…

Friend request sent. Friend request accepted.

Tiffany and Jacob originally became friends through Facebook. Jacob liked Tiffany’s photos. Tiffany liked Jacob’s photos. Jacob remained silent, saying nothing at all. Tiffany decided to message Jacob first.

Eventually the two would meet on Sunday, June 28, 2019 at an Applebee’s near Somerville, Texas. Jacob drove from Deer Park and Tiffany drove from Temple, Texas. Tiffany made sure to arrive first so she would have time to make sure her hair and makeup was absolutely perfect. She remembers thinking to herself, “Lord, please let this first meeting go well.”

Soon after Tiffany’s arrival, Jacob arrived. He opened the door, got out of his truck and walked around to Tiffany’s car to meet her. She remembers thinking, “Oh man, he’s so hot!”

Their lunch date lasted for hours! Tiffany just kept talking! She wanted Jacob to know her entire life story. Jacob barely ate or spoke throughout the entire lunch. Eventually the two decided to continue the date by getting into Jacob’s truck and driving to Somerville Lake. The date would last five more hours! From that very day, the two of them found a way to be together every chance they could get.

The proposal…

Saturday, May 1, 2020 was the day Jacob would propose to Tiffany. He had a plan that began with having his parents babysit the kids the two of them could have a date night. They went to 1424 Bistro in Waco, Texas. The setting was so romantic! They enjoyed a delicious dinner and as their meal came to an end the waitstaff asked if they’d like dessert. Tiffany always gets chocolate so she placed her order for dessert. Earlier Jacob had the waitstaff write, “Tiffany, will you marry me?” on the plate along with the chocolate cake she would order. The waitstaff brought out the chocolate cake and Tiffany noticed everyone standing around with their cellphones recording. She assumed it was someone’s birthday that was seated near them. Jacob stood up and walked around to Tiffany’s side of the table. He had Tiffany stand up and he proceeded to get down on one knee as he asked her to marry him. She then realized that the entire restaurant was in on the whole thing!

The wedding…

Tiffany and Jacob exchanged vows on November 20, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West, Texas. This church holds a special meaning for the two of them. Jacob’s parents and grandparents were also married in that very church.

November 20, 2021 was a gorgeous day for a wedding complete with bright blue skies, blustery winds and warm sunshine! Their wedding was complete with a traditional Catholic ceremony followed by a reception with their closest family and friends celebrating alongside them. They enjoyed dinner followed by cake and LOTS of dancing! Everyone was genuinely happy for the lovely couple. They have an incredible amount of love for each other, their children and their family and friends. They are truly blessed.

Blessed are the ones who have friends like family and family like friends.

Coming Back Home

Their wedding day will be a new chapter in their beautiful love story ❤…

October 23, 2021 was a gorgeous autumn day with bright blue skies filled with warm sunshine at Springfield Hall in Groesbeck, Texas. It was a perfect day for Sarah and Barrett to exchange vows!

When I asked the two of them what their typical date nights looked like they said they enjoy spending time with each other’s friends and family members. As I watched Sarah and Barrett throughout the progression of their wedding day, one thing was clearly evident. Both of them care deeply about their family and friends. Sarah and Barrett are honestly best friends that enjoy hanging out with each other. Barrett has a natural way of making Sarah laugh and she loves every single minute of it!

Sarah and Barrett truly had a wedding that was unlike any other complete with white sheer fabric draped through the rafters, chandeliers lined with stings of pearls, an official sixpence, along with many other unique details, but perhaps the greatest detail of all was their wedding taking place on the 51st anniversary of Sarah’s grandparents.

A happy marriage is about three things: memories of togetherness, forgiveness of mistake and promise to never give up on each other.

Never Let Go

May 29, 2021 was a very hot, humid day at Reverie @ Diamond D in Normangee, Texas. The sun was shining brightly in the blue sky. It was a beautiful day for two to be united.

Tabatha and James would exchange vows surrounded by their family and friends underneath a canopy on a dock over a pond with the sunlight peeking underneath to gently kiss them, as if it was giving them a blessing from above.

Tabatha and James met while working at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Ferguson Unit, in Midway, Texas. Eventually they had their first date at Gilberto’s in Fairfield, Texas. They enjoyed getting to know each other as they talked, laughed and listened to each other. Later James would propose on Christmas Day. Tabatha and the kids were opening gifts and when she looked up, James was down on one knee asking her for her hand in marriage.

Tabatha and James compliment each other. They build each other up on a day to day basis. They both have so much respect for the other. They truly admire one another. And they have fun while doing so! Tabatha often speaks encouraging words to James. He says Tabatha grows him like water and dirt grow a plant. Tabatha says that James often uses parables to help her work through challenging situations. Through these parables he tells her to go about solving the problem by looking at it from a different angle. The two know how to support each other when times are good, as well as when times are challenging.

Marriage is like a garden, it takes time to grow but the harvest is rich unto those who patiently and tenderly care for the ground.

Bagels and Coffee

We can learn a lot from trees; they’re always grounded, but never stop reaching heavenward.

Beneath a canopy of pecan trees on a warm, sunny day, Victoria and Brennen would say, “I Do,” on May 15, 2021. The two love being surrounded by green trees so this particular location on Victoria’s grandparents property in Groesbeck, Texas, was absolutely perfect.

Smith_Family_Photography_Dumas_Wedding_Ceremony_1.jpg

Where It All Began…

Victoria and Brennen began talking to each other through a dating app called Coffee Meets Bagel. Eventually they decided that they should meet and they did just that. They met at Black Walnut Cafe and enjoyed fancy grilled cheese sandwiches while Brennen talked Victoria’s ears off! Afterwards they walked around the park at the Shops at Legacy in Plano, Texas.

On March 9, 2020 Brennen proposed to Victoria at Devils Bridge in Sedona, Arizona while they were on vacation with Victoria’s family. They had just hiked a four mile trail up a mountain and on the way back down, they took a break. During this break, Brennen got down on one knee and asked Victoria for her hand in marriage on the side of a huge rock that was overlooking the mountain valley in front of her family.

proposal blog.jpg

To this day, there isn’t a day that goes by where one of them doesn’t crack the other one up with some silly joke or gesture. Victoria says she’s constantly laughing and saying, “You are stupid!,” while wiping laughing tears out of her eyes.

They enjoy spending time together and often have date nights which typically include grabbing a meal curbside from a restaurant and going home to watch a movie with ice cream or going out to eat followed by exploring random stores on the way home.

Brennen loves that Victoria is supportive, caring, hard-working and nerdy. Victoria loves that Brennen is creative, has the ability to calm her down when she’s stressed out and tells great jokes which make her laugh.

Their Wedding Day…

Victoria and Brennen wanted a wedding ceremony that took place among green trees and a reception that was full of laughter, fun and memories. Their wedding day was all that and more! The ceremony took place on Victoria’s grandparents property with plenty of mature pecan trees. Brennen stood at the altar with the officiant (Victoria’s grandmother) and his best man, waiting for his beautiful bride to be escorted down the aisle by her father. Victoria’s entrance was unique. She sat on the back of a Corvette convertible as her dad drove her to the beginning of the aisle. He put the car in park and proceeded to walk her down the aisle to Brennen to give away his little girl.

bride entrance blog.jpg

After the ceremony everyone traveled to the Groesbeck Convention Center for the reception. As they made their entrance, the two immediately went into their first dance. You could definitely see how happy the two are together!

dancing blog.jpg

After they shared their first dance, it was the Father/Daughter Dance followed the Mother/Son Dance. During both of these dances, the newlyweds invited ALL father/daughter and mother/son duos to dance with them! There were so many smiles from everyone in the room!

The dancing continued throughout the evening and there was plenty of laughter shared! Memories were made.

Best Friends Live In Concert

Funny how a melody sounds like a memory.

The skies were a solid blue during the day and the sunset was as golden as they come. May 8, 2021 was an extremely windy day at Blue Hills Ranch in McGregor, Texas, where Kassandra and Tyler would say, “I do,” surrounded by family and friends.

August 2009…

Music. Kassandra and Tyler’s love story began with music. The two met at Connally Junior High School in August of 2009. Kassandra was in seventh grade and Tyler was in eighth grade. They were in band together where they sat side by side a majority of the time since they both played the alto saxophone. Kassandra and Tyler formed a friendship over the years as they teased each other and laughed together. Four years later, on November 16, 2013, they began dating.

Kassandra and Tyler’s first “official” boyfriend/girlfriend photo

Kassandra and Tyler’s first “official” boyfriend/girlfriend photo

Their first dates consisted of hanging out at Veterans Park near the high school. There they talked about how they both like each other in junior high and how teenage drama got in the way of them being together at that time. Fortunately, that’s not where their story ended.

Since they met in junior high, the two experienced so many “first moments” as they grew up together. Kassandra experienced her first concert with Tyler. Tyler went to his first Dallas Mavericks game with Kassandra. They both attempted ice skating for the first time. The two learned a lot about each other as they enjoyed their time together traveling with family, attending concerts and sporting events.

After five years of dating, Kassandra had lost hope in Tyler asking for her hand. She would frequently ask him when she would get an engagement ring. On June 15, 2019 at 9:45 pm, Tyler set a plan into motion. Tyler took Kassandra to Veterans Park to meet their friends - Ethan and Destiny. Tyler asked Ethan to take a “picture” of him and Kassandra. At that moment, Tyler asked Kassandra if she really lost hope in him asking for her hand. He got down on one knee as Kassandra was crying while asking Tyler, “When did you buy a ring?” Destiny fell to her knees crying of excitement for her best friend. Of course, Kassandra said, “YES!”

Today their dates involve enjoying take out while watching their favorite shows. Tyler loves Kassandra’s positive energy while Kassandra loves Tyler’s ability to make her laugh. Together they continue to enjoy each other’s company - and sense of humor - just like they did at the very beginning of their friendship in junior high.

March 31, 2021…

Kassandra and Tyler are perfect together. They are both so relaxed and definitely have the ability to “just roll with it..” I noticed that about them at their engagement session on March 31, 2021. We had the session planned for weeks! We were going to meet at the wedding venue, Blue Hills Ranch, for the session so Kassandra and Tyler could take photos with the giraffe and piglets. We were all looking forward to it! The day finally arrived and it was a gorgeous sunny day with a bright blue sky - and LOTS of wind! I asked Kassandra if she wanted to go ahead with the session or reschedule in hopes of a less windy day. She decided to just go for it in the wind. We had to fight her long hair blowing around and Tyler’s hat kept trying to fly away, but the two of them had smiles on their faces the entire time. The wind didn’t even phase them. At that moment I realized they were an amazing couple. So much of life is about learning how to see the silver lining in things that are less than “ideal.”

May 8, 2021…

Music. Since Kassandra and Tyler’s love story started with music, it only makes sense that their wedding was full of music. And their wedding day was definitely full of music! The invitations were handmade to resemble a record with the sleeve. The sleeve had their “cover” on it with a map to the venue on the back. The record found inside the sleeve had two sides - one with the basic wedding information on it, such as the date and time, while the other side had a timeline of the events of the day corresponding to a specific song title.

So much of the decor was all music themed, much of which included the artist Eric Church - a favorite of the couples. After all, their dream vacation is enjoying an Eric Church concert at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado!

Groom’s Cake, table decor, photo booth, guest “book,” etc…all music themed

The DJ, Freddy, made sure the guests all enjoyed the music was well by playing a large array of music in various genres. The guests definitely had a great time dancing the night away!

Tears of Joy

On April 24th, 2021 Brandon and Meagan exchanged vows at New Hope Baptist Church in Riesel, Texas. It was a sunny day with perfect temperatures. Perfect weather for a wedding! After the ceremony everyone would travel to Elk Hall in Axtell, Texas for the reception.

Meagan and Brandon had an emotional ceremony. There were so many tears - tears of joy! He cried. She cried. The kids cried. It seems that nearly everyone was crying because they were incredibly happy for them as a couple, but also for them as a family. Meagan has stepped up and has taken on the role of being a mother to three children that aren’t biologically hers and Brandon has done the same for one child that isn’t biologically his. If you sat and observed them as a family, you would never be able to tell that all four children are not biologically both of theirs. It’s truly amazing to watch them interact with each other as one family without any labels. They all love BIG! Each and every one of them love and care for each other in a way that just can’t be described in words. I witnessed this firsthand at their engagement session where I learned so much about all of them.

The groomsmen decided to be funny during portraits and pull out the tissues for Brandon. He cried during the ceremony, along with nearly everyone else.

The groomsmen decided to be funny during portraits and pull out the tissues for Brandon. He cried during the ceremony, along with nearly everyone else.

At the reception I must admit, again I was amazed with these two. They can DANCE!! I have never seen a first dance between the newlyweds as good as theirs! The two danced perfectly in step with one another. They never missed a step. The never missed a spin. They never missed a kiss. And they even never missed a dip! Impressive for sure! Nearly all their dates before COVID involved dinner and dancing - and it shows! These two are definitely in sync with each other.

These two can DANCE!

These two can DANCE!

When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor. It’s to enjoy each step along the way.

April 10, 2021 was everything it was meant to be, although it was nothing like it was originally planned to be. And yet somehow, it turned out to be so much better than imagined!

Cheyenne and Steven - June 2020

Cheyenne and Steven - June 2020

I first met Cheyenne and Steven at their engagement session in June of 2020. They were so excited for their upcoming wedding on October 10, 2020. This date was chosen deliberately. They chose the 10th day of the 10th month in the year ending in 20 - 10 plus 10 equals 20. As the days went by, COVID was only getting worse and their were more and more restrictions. The two began to wonder what their perfect wedding day in October was going to look like. They eventually decided to elope to Colorado and enjoy their honeymoon while continuing to plan for a reception on April 10, 2021.

These two love are so much fun to be around! They’re definitely carefree and playful!

Where It All Began…

Cheyenne and Steven originally met at Midway High School and then later reconnected while Cheyenne was employed as a waitress at George’s in Waco. Their first date was dinner at Texas Roadhouse. Cheyenne says it was the first real date she had ever been on and definitely noticed every time Steven opened all of the doors for her, listened to her all night and even paid for dinner! He was truly a gentleman.

The two continued dating and enjoyed learning more about each other. They eventually went to the West Coast for Steven’s job and they ended up in Canada. They were staying in a beautiful hotel that was connected to a mall. There was an escape room inside the mall that they decided to enter, as they were very confident that they would be able to escape. They came very close to completing it so the attendant walked them through the rest of the room and at the very end there was a treasure box filled with lots of fake gold which surrounded a little box. As Cheyenne opened the little box, Steven hit a knee and popped the question!

Still to this day, the two love going to Grand Station to play arcade games, mini golf or games at their house. They are both incredibly carefree, adventurous and playful - all while enjoying lots of laughter!

The Party!

The two celebrated becoming one at Tucker Hall in Waco, Texas on April 10, 2021. The two were a bit nervous before the ceremony, but said they were so glad they eloped because it was so stress-free. Throughout the day the two were seen with smiles on their faces as they interacted with each other, as well as their family and friends. They are not only genuine, but incredibly kind and loving. As I captured moments of their day as the events unfolded, you could truly see those qualities shine through.

Love Looks Good on You

February 13, 2021 was definitely a day to remember in Mexia, Texas! The entire State of Texas was slammed with a major winter storm which consisted of widespread power outages, as well as water outages. Due to both of these outages, many pipes froze causing damage afterwards. This winter storm was literally record breaking with 205 consecutive hours of freezing temperatures from February 10th to February 19th, 2021. Ice was literally everywhere!

Jonathan and Kaci would exchange vows in the company of family and friends at the First Baptist Church in Mexia, Texas on a very cold day in the midst of that record breaking winter storm.

The wedding rings were photographed on leaves covered in ice.

The wedding rings were photographed on leaves covered in ice.

Jonathan and Kaci

Jonathan and Kaci met online on October 24th and were able to develop a relationship with one another which eventually led to their first “date.” The two had a mutual friend that invited them to her house for beer around the fire. Jonathan is deaf and this mutual friend knows ASL (American Sign Language). She was worried about the two communicating and knew the two were perfect for each other. Since this “date,” the two have not spent more than 24 hours apart.

As Jonathan’s birthday approached, Kaci planned him a surprise birthday party. He thought it was going to be just the two of them and he had a plan to propose to Kaci! He, of course, did not know that all of their family and friends would be there! When Kaci went to cut his cake, she turned around and he was down on one knee. He thought it would be a private proposal, but instead they were surrounded by family and friends. It was perfect!

To this day, their perfect date is sitting around a fire. listening/watching ASL music videos while enjoying a few beers. The two are strong, trusting, kind, faithful and funny. Jonathan truly puts Kaci’s needs before his own. He is compassionate and loves her for who she is. Jonathan loves that Kaci is accepting and non-judgmental. Her smile makes him smile.

The love they have for each other was evident throughout their wedding day. Jonathan frequently picked up the train of Kaci’s wedding dress and carried it as she walked. He was very careful not to let it get too dirty or stepped on. They were both so incredibly sensitive of each other’s needs throughout the entire wedding! Their family and friends have even told them that they have never seen either of them more happy.

The Wedding

Jonathan and Kaci’s wedding was a traditional wedding in the sanctuary at the First Baptist Church in Mexia, Texas. The sanctuary was decorated with flowers along the aisle and small artificial trees covered in white lights, which complimented the cold weather that could be found outside! The ceremony was complete with their friend signing for Jonathan. The two also included Kaci’s two daughters in a sand ceremony. Jonathan had a special surprise for the youngest daughter during the ceremony. He presented her with a ring! Later during the reception he danced with her as well.

The reception was complete with a photo booth for the guests to enjoy, cake and other tasty treats, garter toss and bouquet toss. They exited the reception and left to their honeymoon with their family and friends blowing bubbles as they walked out of the building.

Love In the Time of COVID

January 30th, 2021 was a windy day in downtown Waco, Texas at the First Baptist Church. The sun was shining brightly through the stained glass windows and dome on the ceiling. It was beautiful! As I continued down the hall to the bride’s room, I entered and saw a stunning bride. I knew this day was going to be spectacular! The day Sami and Steve became Mr. and Mrs. Tyra.

Grow old along with me. The best is yet to be.

The Love Story

Dating during COVID can be tricky with all the social distancing, mask wearing, sanitizing and time in quarantine. None of this stopped Sami and Steve!

On January 24, 2020, Sami and Steve had their first date at Moroso’s and they both had a great time! Steve asked Sami if she’d like to continue the date. Sami agreed and they went to Heritage Creamery for ice cream. Sami thought Steve was funny and interesting and hoped to spend more time with Steve. Steve must have felt the same way because he asked her on a second date a few days later.

Valentine’s Day arrived and the two enjoyed dinner at 1424 Bistro. This place would later be the location of the proposal…and Sami had NO idea! After flying to California to meet Steve’s family, they once again enjoyed dinner at 1424 Bistro. This time Steve handed Sami the sweetest card with the proposal inside! She said, “YES!”

Love In the Time of COVID. Quarantine Romance. Call it what you want, but COVID helped these two become a close, strong couple. After all, there is no way they could be this close without spending almost every day together in quarantine! They met and dated less than 2 months before COVID hit. Steve and his daughter, Meli, were the only two people in Sami’s bubble. They fell in love. Meli and Sami created a strong relationship during quarantine as well.

During this time they enjoyed dinners, desserts, talking, laughing and planning their future together. They had lots of time to enjoy each other’s company during times of quarantine. This time together helped them form a strong and caring relationship full of understanding, forgiving and communication.

Steve says that he loves Sami because she’s so nice and she’s great with Meli. Sami says she loves Steve because he is calm, thoughtful and an amazing father to Meli. Their dream vacation would be having fun as a family (#teamtyra) and they’d love to take Meli to Disney one day.

The Wedding

Sami and Steve planned a simple, yet thoughtful, wedding. Sami and Steve asked to do a First Look before the ceremony and requested that this time was only for the two of them. It was so sweet to see them interact with each other without distractions of the buzz of the wedding circling them.

Sami also asked to do a First Look with her father. Again, this was a private time for Sami and her father with no spectators. The look on her dad’s face was priceless as he admired his daughter as a beautiful bride. Such a special time for the both of them.

It was finally time for the ceremony! Meli is such an integral part of the relationship so it was only fitting that they included her in the ceremony with a candle lighting ceremony.

After the ceremony, the guests - along with Mr. and Mrs. Tyra - would enjoy a simple reception with some of the most delicious cupcakes ever! The highlight of the reception was the slideshow and words spoken by their family members.

The send off was breathtaking! Flower petals were tossed in the air and the circled around the newlyweds! Meli was so excited for this part of the day!

Where It All Began…

A single flat tire would change the lives of Alena and Luis forever. You see, Luis owns a tire shop in Mexia, Texas - Triple L Tires. And Alena had a flat tire.

In 2014, Alena’s vehicle got a flat tire one day. The had to be at work all day so she wouldn’t have time to get it fixed so her PawPaw took her car to the tire shop to be fixed. The next day Alena noticed that the same tire was very low on air so she called her PawPaw to let him know that the tire was still leaking air. He gave her the address to the tire shop in town and she drove there to have it fixed. Luis was the gentleman that fixed her tire and after it was fixed he asked Alena for her phone number. She was flattered and gave in to his request. They went on their first date the following day at the Taqueria in Mexia. The two sat and talked for hours after eating! They two have been inseparable ever since.

In 2016, they decided to have an Easter celebration at their lake house and invited the entire family. Alena was busy with all the preparations for the day while Luis was making his own plans. He was going to propose to Alena!

Easter Sunday arrived and the celebration began. Alena’s brother, named Dylan, blindfolded her and walked her through the front yard. When she was in position, she took off her blindfold and saw Luis on one knee holding a ring. Their children were there as well holding signs that said, “Will you marry me?” It was so special and ever more so because the entire family was there!

Today their typical date nights happen at home. After the kids are in bed they take time for each other. The enjoy relaxing in the pool or hot tube, just talking, stargazing and drinking wine. They are so much alike that they never have a shortage of things to talk about. They both have a lot of respect for each other and that keeps their relationship strong.

The Wedding…

On October 10, 2020 Alena and Luis would tie the knot and officially become Mr. and Mrs. Guzman at Springfield Hall in Groesbeck, Texas on a very warm, sunny day. The wedding was decorated in purple, lavender and white with many small touches to make the event very classy.

Guzman_Wedding_Details_Smith_Family_Photography

They had a backdrop set up for a photo booth, complete with props. They had several yard games for guests to enjoy - corn hole and connect four to name a few. Their guest book was a “Jenga Guestbook.,” in which painted blocks were written on for stacking. These two thought of so many details to make their big day truly enjoyable for all in attendance!

Just the Two of Us

Sarah and Antone became Mr. and Mrs. Portillo on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Leatherberry Oaks Weddings on a sunny day in Aquilla, Texas. The weather was so amazing - especially since Central Texas has recently had record breaking high temperatures and inches upon inches of rain!

These two are always fun to be around as they have so much love to give each other and genuinely enjoy each other’s company. During their engagement session, the love these two have for one another was contagious. They both have gorgeous smiles that can light up a room and bring a smile to all those around them. Their wedding day was full of love and support from their family and friends. Everyone enjoyed the wedding festivities!

I loved every bit of their wedding day, but my favorite part was the first look. Sarah really wanted to have a first look portion of the day and felt strongly that it was going to be just the two of them enjoying each other for a brief moment during their busy day. We decided that Sarah would be in the barn and Antone would be on the front step just outside the front door. Sarah would slowly push the doors open and walk up to Antone, cover his eyes and slowly turn him around so he could see her in the dress as his gorgeous bride. As she slowly spun him around and he looked at her, his eyes began to swell with tears. It was truly an emotional moment shared between the two of them.

Afterwards they moved onto family and bridal party portraits before the ceremony. This would allow them to be a part of their reception from the very beginning. These two put so much thought into the flow of the day. Everything was planned with intention.

I have no doubt that these two will live a life of happiness with one another. They truly put each other’s needs before their own and understand the importance of taking time for just the two of them - especially when things get busy.

Twin Flame

On July 11th, 2020 John and Lori exchanged vows in Groesbeck, Texas at Springfield Hall. It was a very warm day with wide open blue skies as far as eyes could see.

The sky in Texas is the most amazing sky in the whole country. You can see more sky in Texas than you can see anywhere else in the world.”
— Idina Menzel

Lori and John met casually as she knew of his family and she was a Facebook suggestion of his. Due to COVID-19, their first date was at John’s father’s house. They grilled steaks and watched a movie while they started to learn more about each other. This first date, although casual, was the start of something beautiful. Eventually John proposed to Lori on a rainy day in the post office parking lost in Mexia, Texas.

The shelter in place order provided both of them with lots of time together. They were able to drive around and check cattle during the day and in the evening cuddle up on the couch to watch some television together. The soon discovered that they are each other’s Twin Flame!

Every soul has a twin, a reflection of themselves - the kindred spirit. No matter where they are or how far away they are, they will always find one another. This is destiny; this is love.

One Morning Last Summer…

Dana received a call from her friend, Robin. During the conversation Robin asked if Dana was currently seeing anyone because she had someone she wanted Dana to meet. His name was Michael and he was the brother of the man she was dating. They talked about “stalking” Michael’s Facebook page and Dana was intrigued. He seemed interesting. He was attractive. And he appeared to have a close relationship to his children. Dana told Robin that he was “cute” and left it at that.

The next morning Dana had a hair appointment with Robin. They did not discuss Michael at all, however Robin invited her to her birthday party that weekend. Dana wasn’t sure if she would attend, but on Saturday she decided to get out of the house. She went to a local favorite shop, Spice Village, and ended up buying a gift for Robin and then sent her a message saying she would be attending the party.

Meanwhile, Michael’s brother was talking to him about “some girl” they wanted him to meet. Michael wasn’t interested in dating at the time and just brushed it off. He was currently wrestling with God at this point in his life over failed relationships and the direction his life had turned. He pretty much decided he was going to remain single for awhile.

Saturday night arrived and Dana arrived at 1424 Bistro in downtown Waco. As she entered the room she immediately greeted Robin and wished her a happy birthday. Robin introduced Dana to the other guests - including Michael. Michael did not know Dana was “the girl” they wanted him to meet. However, Dana knew thanks to the Facebook stalking! During the party Dana took the opportunity to check him out over dinner. He was funny, polite and a true gentleman that night. When the party concluded, she was a little disappointed, but very much interested.

Later the following week, Michael was informed that Dana was “the girl.” Micheal sent her a Facebook friend request and they began chatting via Messenger so Dana must have made a good impression on him as well. They soon began talking on the phone. During one of the early conversations Michael mentioned that he had been struggling with God and he quoted a scripture. Dana responded without hesitation - New Testament: James 1:2-4. At that point, Michael realized he found someone that desired to chase God just as passionately as he wanted to. That call went way into the night and they never got tired of learning about each other.

After many phone calls and late night chats, Dana told Michael that he needed to take her to dinner. They decided to have dinner at PF Chang’s in Waco. The food was great, but the conversation was amazing! They had so much in common! After dinner they went to Dana’s house and spent the entire evening sitting on the living room sofa talking about anything and everything.

October 15, 2019…

Michael and Dana had one of the most profound conversations either had ever experienced. They were talking about life, future hopes and dreams, and what they wanted out of their newfound love. They shared past hurts, failures, and disappointments. The conversation was kind, loving, raw, and honest. This conversation went on throughout the night and in the early morning hours they committed to one another that they would forever promise to love and honor each other. In many ways it was their own private wedding ceremony as they both walked away feeling like they were already married. It will forever be a memory etched in their minds with no proof other than the marks it left on their hearts.

A little over a month later on November 28, 2019 Michael officially proposed to Dana. It was a tender moment with lots of tears of joy. Of course Dana said, “YES!” and she was given a stunning engagement ring from Boozer’s Jewelers in Waco as a sweet reminder of the promise they made to each other that night.

As they continued on their journey together, they purchased 38 acres of land in Lorena where they will be building their future home together. They spend many evenings out there watching the sun set over the horizon. They celebrate with champagne, dancing to their favorite playlists in the coastal fields, watching the cows and horses graze, taking photos of wildflowers that they will print and frame to adorn the wall of their new home together.

July 4, 2020…

The Fourth of July was a very hot day in Satin, Texas where Dana and Michael would exchange vows in front of their family and a few close friends at Moon River Ranch. The venue was absolutely picture perfect! The wedding was so special with all their thoughtful touches to make the entire evening about their strong relationship surrounded by the love of God and the love of their family. Many happy tears were shed, as well as lots of shared laughter.

Their pastor officiated the ceremony. Their counselor led them through braiding the three stands. Their parents sat in the front row fully supporting the union. Their children surrounded them as they were the bridal party. The ring pillow was made by Michael’s mother. Michael wore his grandfather’s bolo tie. Dana had her grandmother’s broach fastened to her bouquet. Sparklers sent the newlyweds off. Flags were waved for their love of America. But perhaps the most moving part of the entire ceremony was when the DJ played a song Michael’s daughter sang, the cover to Ocean Eyes. She could not be in attendance due to COVID travel restrictions. For that entire song, everyone just listened.

Their wedding is truly one to be remembered.

Trash That Dress!

In December of 2018, Mike wanted to propose to Mysti, but not in an ordinary way - he wanted to do something REALLY special for her! At the time I was searching for one guy that was about to pop the question so I could document it for them through photographs. Mike reached out to me and we set the plan in motion.

Mike proposed!!

Fast forward a couple of months when the wedding plans are beginning to take shape…

Mysti contacted me asking if I would photograph their wedding. Of course I said I would love to! During 2019 the plan took off in many directions as they explored all the awesome venues - one was even an old caboose! At one point they decided on an elopement on a cruise trip, but Mike’s family would not be thrilled about missing their big day. As their plans changed so did their family’s plans. One of the daughter’s was going to join the navy after graduation and they definitely wanted her to be in the bridal party so they made plans for a backyard wedding in Mexia, Texas before she left for the military. But then the completely unexpected happen…COVID - 19!

Texas was suddenly under a shelter in place order and no one knew how long that would last. The days turned into weeks. The weeks turned into months. How much longer could this possibly go on?? Slowly the state began to reopen, but there were still restrictions in place. One such restriction was the amount of people in one gathering. That definitely put a damper on wedding plans!

One day Mysti messaged me and said she was so over all the planning and waiting on restrictions to lift that her and Mike decided to have a simple family wedding before her daughter left to the navy so instead of the typical wedding photograph she wanted to trash her dress. And that is exactly what we planned - complete with a cake fight (after sanitizing hands) and lots of toilet paper!

Spending this time with this family was so refreshing and carefree, especially during a time of quarantine. It was amazing to see the entire family having so much fun with each other creating crazy memories their cherish forever!

Because when you stop and look around, this life is pretty amazing.

Change of Plans

Sometimes it ends up different and it is better that way.

April 10, 2020 was a day that many were anxiously awaiting. This was the day that Jacob and Hannah would exchange vows in front of their family and friends. The anticipated wedding was originally going to take place at a stunning venue in Axtell, Texas, however something completely unexpected happened - COVID-19. Everyone hoped for the pandemic to be over by this date. But that did not happen. The venue cancelled, along with many of the vendors. This wedding was definitely going to happen on April 10th - no matter what!

There was a change in plans. The wedding would now be small and include a few of their closest family and friends. But where would the wedding take place now since the venue canceled? They considered a friend’s living room and a back yard. After all, rain chances were also moving in and out of the forecast for that day so they needed to take that into consideration. Eventually they decided on a beautiful and secluded piece of property near Axtell, Texas. It seemed as if the new plan was falling into place.

The big day finally arrived and everyone quickly checked the skies and forecast for the day and they were pleasantly surprised. No rain was in the forecast at all! And the temperature was going to be absolutely perfect - not too hot, not too cold. It was a perfect 75 degrees and sunny!

Jacob and Hannah

The two originally met because Jacob was friends with Hannah’s brother. Eventually they went on their first date on October 23, 2017. They ate breakfast at Cracker Barrel and spent the entire day together. He later proposed to her in Dallas at a botanical garden.

Fast forward two and a half years. They spend their date nights going to dinner followed by visiting Sonic for ice cream or drinks before heading home to watch Netflix. They describe their relationship as “definitely not average” with a laughing emoji! When asked what they liked best about each other, Jacob said he likes “everything” about Hannah and Hannah said she likes that Jacob is incredibly patient with her.

The Big Day

The week leading up to the wedding I talked to Hannah’s mother frequently. Plans were changing and Hannah was upset her plans were no longer a reality and instead they were just “winging it.” At some point, the stress seemed to disappear and everything seemed to fall into place perfectly. In fact, I heard many family and friends (including the bride and groom) say they felt this wedding was better than the original one they had planned. It was important that they wed on April 10th and on April 10th that is exactly what happened.

Crazy Like You

March 14th, 2020 was a gloomy day in Ben Hur, Texas with rain chances coming and going…basically a typical Texas day in the spring. This was anything but a typical day however! This was the day Matthew and Jennifer would say, “I Do,” in front of family and friends.

Matthew and Jennifer met a couple of years ago through a mutual friend. There was a near instant connection between them. Their first date was dinner at Jennifer’s favorite restaurant, Texas Roadhouse, followed by dancing. Eventually Matthew knew what he needed to do. Propose.

One night they had some family visiting from out of state and everyone went out to dinner. Afterwards, Jennifer and Matthew went on a walk to the Waco Suspension Bridge. At some point, Jennifer turns around to look at Matthew and he is on one knee with a ring. Of course, she said…”YES!”

She said, “YES!” Matthew wrote, “Well it happened! After keeping this in for I don't even know how long! I got the chance to ask my best friend to spend the rest of our days together and she said yes! I'm so excited to see what the future holds for …

She said, “YES!” Matthew wrote, “Well it happened! After keeping this in for I don't even know how long! I got the chance to ask my best friend to spend the rest of our days together and she said yes! I'm so excited to see what the future holds for us! I love you.”

As they continued to grow as a couple during this engagement, they continued dating and getting to know each other even more. Their perfect date night includes dinner followed by watching a movie from the $5 bin at Wal-Mart at home snuggled up on the couch. They have developed a strong relationship that is wild and suspenseful, yet loving and beautiful. Their life together can be compared to the movie Starsky and Hutch - Matthew gets into trouble and Jennifer gets him out of it!

Jennifer loves the way Matthew smiles at her and their son with his amazing blue eyes. Matthew is an amazing father to their son. Matthew loves Jennifer’s hair, eyes and how Jennifer makes him feel so loved.

Twice as Nice

The winter of 2019 was exceptionally warm and the day of December 14th was no exception. The sun was shining brightly radiated heat over the small town of Mart, Texas. On this day, Justin and Lauren exchanged vows in the presence of their family and friends at the Mart Community Center.

Justin and Lauren first met at her birthday party when she was celebrating her second birthday. Several years later they met again at a dodge-ball tournament when they were in their early teens. Fast forward a few more years and the two met once again at On the Border in Waco, Texas, where they were both employed. They soon began dating. They went out to eat a meal at Freddy’s where they enjoyed each other’s company on their very first date.

Justin actually proposed TWICE! He first asked for Lauren’s hand in marriage while they were enjoying a cruise on December 17th, which was the anniversary of their first meeting. Justin gave Lauren a gold ring - which she lost! Justin gave Lauren another ring and proposed to her for the second time in front of the Martin Luther King Memorial next to the Suspension Bridge at Indian Springs Park in Waco, Texas. It was at this time that they also added a lock to the rails. You can read more about their engagement on the blog, Serendipity.

Lauren later learned that when Justin and Lauren reunited at On the Border, Justin went home and told his mother that the second he saw her he knew he was going to marry her. And marry her he did!

Justin and Lauren are a perfect couple that truly compliment each other. A typical date night for them includes take out and keeping things natural and comfortable. They can be described as, “Your weird matches my weird.” Their personalities are genuine and unique - truly a match for each other! Lauren said the movie, “Unintentionally Weird,” best represents their life together.

What a Wonderful Day

Simple. Pure. Fun. Caring. Unique.

When I first met Amber and Ryan at their engagement session in September I just knew their wedding day was going to be nothing short of a wonderful day! They are both so laid back and genuinely care deeply about one another. They are always laughing as they enjoy each other’s company. It was such an experience to be around the two of them together!

When I asked them to describe their relationship in FIVE words, Ryan’s response was…Can we do this later? Well played Ryan, well played. That is in fact FIVE words, but not quite what I had in mind! When I finally got their answer, they came up with…simple, pure, fun, caring and unique. And I do believe every single one of those traits describe their relationship.

Simple. Their wedding was simple, yet elegant. No crazy decorations, just some pumpkins, candles and flower arrangements.

Pure. Their wedding was very clean, pure and the venue, Springfield Hall, was a great choice for this look.

Fun. These two laugh all the time! You can’t help but laugh when you’re around them as well.

Caring. They care about each other deeply, but it doesn’t stop there. They care about their family and friends as well.

Unique. Their wedding was wonderful and unique in so many ways. I loved the use of balloons at their exit with lights inside of them!

The Perfect Blend

Marriage brought us together, but being a family is just what’s in our hearts.

September 21st, 2019 was a beautiful Texas summer day that was absolutely perfect for a beautiful wedding at Tucker Hall in Waco, Texas! The venue was decorated with bright colors that included fuchsia, teal and coral. On this day Mackenzie and David became Mr. and Mrs. Carrizales.

The details of the wedding were absolutely stunning!

The details of the wedding were absolutely stunning!

Mackenzie and David grew up knowing each other as family friends. Years later they reconnected through social media and the rest is history. Their first date was filled with great conversation and laughter as the two caught up with one another at the winery. The two continued to get to know each other over time and soon David decided to get down on one knee and ask for Mackenzie’s hand in marriage after one of their many romantic nights.

Mackenzie and David both have children from previous relationships and now they are an official blended family. It was amazing to watch them interact with each other throughout the evening. They all got along extremely well shared many laughs between all six of them! When you watch them you can’t help but smile right along with them. They are all so carefree, loving and genuine.

A look at the bride and groom (and their children) getting ready for their big day!

A look at the bride and groom (and their children) getting ready for their big day!

Mackenzie and David are surrounded by LOTS of family and friends! In fact, Mackenzie couldn’t choose just one Matron of Honor! She had two plus one Maid of Honor. David has a large family and one challenge that they warned me about was getting all of them into one photograph. But we did it!

After the ceremony and the portraits it was time for the first dances. This included Mackenzie and David of course, as well as David with his mother. This also included Mackenzie and her son - which was full of surprises!

Mother and Son Dance. Their dance started off as an emotional dance, but then suddenly turned into them dancing to songs like “The Git Up,” “Superman” and everything in between!
